Why This Project Exists

Trees Don't Just Look Good. They Work Hard for Your Neighborhood.

A single mature tree can cool the surrounding area by up to 10 degrees on a hot South Florida afternoon. Tree-lined streets experience less flooding, less crime, and more community life.

Children who grow up near green space have better health outcomes. Seniors live longer. Property values rise. And neighborhoods with mature canopies feel like places worth caring about.

Right now, the streets of Driftwood, Boulevard Heights, and Beverly Park are among the least shaded in Hollywood. This project is here to change that — block by block, tree by tree, vote by vote.

Every species below was approved by the City of Hollywood because it thrives in South Florida's climate and serves the communities it grows in. Hover to learn more — then vote for your favorites.

Southern Live Oak

Quercus virginiana

Wide, sweeping canopy that can shade an entire block. A Live Oak planted today will still be shading this neighborhood's grandchildren 100 years from now.

Gumbo Limbo

Bursera simaruba

Fast-growing, hurricane-tough, virtually maintenance-free. One of South Florida's most iconic natives — resilient, shady, and distinctly Floridian.

Pigeon Plum

Coccoloba diversifolia

A steady native that brings birds, wildlife, and consistent shade. Its upright form makes it ideal for sidewalks and streetscapes.

Dahoon Holly

Ilex cassine

Bright red berries in winter, deep green canopy year-round. Birds flock to it — and it thrives in wetter, lower-lying streets.

Green Buttonwood

Conocarpus erectus

A South Florida original growing here for thousands of years. Handles salt, heat, and coastal conditions — dense shade, long life.

Silver Buttonwood

Conocarpus erectus 'Sericeus'

Silver-green leaves that shimmer in the sun. Same toughness as its cousin, with a look that makes any street stand out.

Stoppers

Eugenia spp.

Fragrant flowers, wildlife-friendly berries, lush foliage. A Stopper on your block is a small nature preserve.

Orange Geiger

Cordia sebestena

Brilliant orange blooms nearly year-round. Butterflies and hummingbirds everywhere. The most colorful tree on this list.

Royal Poinciana

Delonix regia

Legendary fire-red blooms that cover the entire canopy. One of the most spectacular flowering trees in the world — and it thrives here.

Yellow Poinciana

Peltophorum spp.

Golden-yellow blooms, copper seed pods, wide spreading canopy. Beauty and shade across every season of the year.

Bridal Veil

Caesalpinia granadillo

Feathery, delicate foliage that filters light beautifully. A graceful tree that makes any street feel intentional and cared for.

Sabal Palm

Sabal palmetto

Florida's state tree. Hurricane-proof, century-lasting, and the defining image of South Florida life. There's nothing more Hollywood than this.
